(I'm working with a severely vision-impaired child this year, but that's a whole nuther story.) anyway, the sounds and images work like a dream, a rush of things that almost get past you. then I re-read a few times and now I'm wondering: maybe it's dreams -- unrealized dreams? -- that fester and grow in us, becoming tumors in our real-world bodies. or maybe not. Ed Abbey got me thinking years ago about the different metaphors we use for growth with his line about economic "growth": "Unlimited growth is the ideology of the cancer cell."
