Lover to lover, air

to eagle, bell to bell

in the great carillon
where one sound

silvers and multiplies
into a choir of tongues:

at the end, make me tender
from having lived the lessons;

give back the frayed
untangled, return

me to myself
just as the measure

loops firmly back
into itself.
