Dialectic

“It was from the Nameless that Heaven and Earth sprang.” ~ Tao Te Ching

Consider fields
when razed by fire:

how their burning returns
all famines to the earth,

all harvests— so both
are equal to the gods who look

down on countries torched
by dying. At least there is

such symmetry: a moment
in the waist of the hour-

glass even the foraging
birds understand.
