Dream sequence

I had a heart once

It flew at the slightest

hint of air

It loved the taste

of roasted chestnuts

The way a mouthful of cold

water spreads through each

branch of the body

It stood in line yet

never struck

a perfect score

but wept to see

a shriveled globe

of fruit turn into

an expensive version

of itself— It walked

the aisles touching

the tissue folds

of things that no one

wanted to take home
