butuki – Yeah. But I wonder if someone like Sen. Lott would’ve said about the Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland, “They all look the same to me”? I think his statement speaks volumes about the way our expectations of ethnic differences shape our political perceptions.

I wonder how many of those same public figures would fare against questions about the differences between Catholics, the various sects of Protestants, and the Orthodox Church (if they even know it exists)? Which of these groups is more radical, which tolerant, which areas in the Christian world frequented by which groups, and what their differences mean politically and idealogically?
