I started using WordPress when 2.0 started in January of '06. My host at the time (Yahoo!) had automatic intalls of WP and MT. I decided to build a theme on both sites and use whichever one was easier. Within 3 hours, I had WP looking exactly how I wanted it, and as much as I thought I wanted MT, I could never figure it out. Like you I've fallen in love with WP for a variety of reasons, but I smiled reading this when I thought about how exciting categories were to someone like me who'd started out on Blogger. Corrected. I've thought about adding a plugin to allow commenters to edit their comments (I used to have that), but I'm afraid I'm already pushing against the upper limit of what I can have without affecting site performance. (The ability to subscribe to comment threads is done by plugin, too, and I think that's a little more important.)

It is in PHP now? Shows what I know.

I know Six Apart sold out last year, but since they liberated the MT code base, chances are very good that independent users will continue to care for it and/or Melody and keep ahead of worms and hackers.

Slightly!

The agony of typos.

Is it five years already?! I remember the switch and it looks great.

As a Moveable Type user, chosen by my designers for I know naught about coding, I can just say that I have had a free version the full seven years of blogging, and it is in 'php', a change initiated a year or two after we started. I did worry a bit when MT made some admin moves last year but so far so good. If I was doing a fairly complicated design like yours, I'd probably feel differently, and I admit I'd like a redesign of my page - whenever my designer has time to do it.

WordPress is a remarkable content management platform, inspiring confidence in users and developers. I am in the contemplation stage of taking my OpenBook plugin to a whole new level, an OpenBookShelf that would work like the existing Media Gallery, but for books. I have enough confidence in WordPress and its future direction to think my investment would be worthwhile.
