Savasana

This entry is part 17 of 41 in the series Morning Porch Poems: Autumn 2012

Find the rest in any pose,
the teacher said: as circling birds
eventually come to roost,
as the water’s thrashing
quiets after it, too,
has had its fill.

  1. My yoga teacher has said that savasana, strangely enough, may be the most difficult pose for most practitioners to do. The mind does not quiet easily, but holds onto sensations, any sensations it can perceive. Though I might have an edge on some because I hear so poorly and am thus that much more divorced from the world around me, this means I cannot hear the internal sounds I am told to listen for, which are at the root of this pose and also pranayama.
