All day, either at the office or at home, busy about business till late at night, I having lately followed my business much, I find great pleasure in it, and a growing content.
at the office
busy about business
I eat a wing
Erasure haiku derived from The Diary of Samuel Pepys, Thursday 13 March 1661/62.
This one struck me sideways, made me shake my head. Amusing and disturbing at once — thanks!
Thanks for the feedback! I didn’t think it very likely that I’d get any erasure poem out of this entry at all, given its brevity, but as it happened I spotted the haiku in about three minutes.
Sideways was also my impression. I think “busy about business” made me think of a typewriter’s carriage, so the wing, like the carriage, moves from one side to the other, though lower (appropriately enough: the wing is on the lower line), across the mouth instead of across the eyes.
Interesting reaction. Thanks.
