From the Book of Outlines

The sky asks what sort of animal you are
before you cross the bridge into
the new year. You are made to pick out
runes from a jar, drop smooth
stones on an altar where joss sticks
burn sweet smoke. In other words,
your fortune will be told according to
the color of the halo that governs
love and luck, health and money and work.
A star flies into each corner
of your abode and into the very center.
To keep them there, you must clean
your house with salt crystals and water;
at midnight you must open
the drawers and windows and let
cool air bear cobwebs away.
