"What we were like. How beautiful the planet still was."
~ D. Bonta
we had honeycomb
blinds that lasted nearly ten
years before they sagged
irremediably on one side
it took a while to figure out
how to release the brackets
but there were online videos
& a flathead screwdriver
afterward we drove
to the farmers market
where we always went
crazy from the colors
okra & heirloom tomatoes
coreopsis and indigo
pink & blue
oyster mushrooms
emerging from loam
& rotting wood
the sun would never
again be forgiving
I tried not to lean
toward the hole
in my heart
daughter that won't
speak to me
mother a bent
frame & wick of cotton
about to go out
