Sermon of the trees

Such proof of industry
beneath the arms
of trees

that have let go of
their leaves— We tend
and tend the grass,

raking their discards.
They do not stop.
They cannot stop

until they’ve spent
it all, until they have
no more to give.

In response to Via Negativa: Louder than words.
