In Autumn

The wind picked up
what the sea
pulled into its arms.
The moon offered its one
pewter plate, buffed
many times by the light-
house's strobe.
We remained
in our houses,
listening to their
faint conversation.
We went to bed,
dreaming the grass
had returned.
