Write Love Without Saying Love

After daylong rain,

a woodpecker starts again—

all muted typewriter keys.

*

on the hydrangea and the persimmon—

and the number of whorls amid their green.

*

We hear the wind's

arrival before seeing its plumage.

And then it moves through everything.
