Hello! I have read them in Spanish, specially Los Heraldos Negros, several times, but didn’t know their English versions (translations). I believe you and your collaborators have made a fine work here. Reading Vallejo’s poetry is an unique, intimate and passionate experience that begs to be felt, not rationalized. It’s difficult to explain it even in the original language. So thank you for sharing it with the anglophone community. Despite the many crevices between languages, I believe Vallejo’s voice remains in these five poems. Perhaps my only doubt would be why you decided to say “ball” instead of “bullet” in “The tennis player in the moment”. My favourite lines were “And if after so much history, we succumb/ not to eternity/ but to these simple things,”. I hope life treats you well, Dave Bonta, specially in these trying times.
