Rebecca – Thanks for the comment. You add a valuable perspective. It does still seem to me that the problem is precisely with the legal tools we’ve created to protect intellectual property rights, which almost always are for the benefit of the big guys. The rest of us are left like the original inhabitants of Manhattan, not realizing what we’ve given away, crowing over our handfuls of pretty beads. To me, the open source movement is very much of a piece with the movement against biopiracy – and even the movement to keep public drinking water from being privatized. It’s saying, there are things that shouldn’t be fenced in or roped off, for the good of everybody.
